On May 24, 2023, the City Council of Wilhelmshaven adopted the Waste Management Concept 2023–2027. This concept established the collection system for light packaging effective January 1, 2025. It provides for the citywide introduction of Yellow Bins.
The Yellow Bins will be distributed throughout the entire city starting in October 2024. Distribution is expected to be completed by mid-November 2024.
If you have not yet received a bin, there could be several reasons for this. Here’s what you can check first:
- Has distribution in your street or neighborhood already been completed? Have your neighbors also not yet received a Yellow Bin? It’s possible that distribution in your area is still pending.
- Could a neighbor have accidentally taken your bin? Please check with your neighbors first.
If your household was indeed overlooked during distribution, please contact Augustin Entsorgung Friesland via the contact form.
The bin is free of charge for you – just like the previous Yellow Bag collection. As before, the disposal of packaging is financed through the Dual Systems, which organize the collection and recycling of this waste on behalf of retailers. Ultimately, consumers pay the disposal costs for packaging when purchasing each packaged product. The Yellow Bin remains the property of Augustin Entsorgung Friesland.
No, your container will no longer be emptied. From January 1, 2025, only the new containers will be emptied. However, as a courtesy, Augustin will continue to empty your old containers during regular collection rounds until January 31, 2025.
1,100 L containers (also known as four-wheel containers) that do not yet have a chip will continue to be emptied until they have received a chip from us.
The number of containers depends on the number of people per household.
Please note: Unlike the Yellow Bag, lightweight recyclables can and should be compressed by hand in the sturdy Yellow Bin if needed, in order to make better use of the available volume.
If this is the case, please contact Augustin Entsorgung Friesland using the contact form at the bottom of the page.
Please first check with your neighbors to see if the bin was accidentally taken by someone else.
If this is not the case, please contact Augustin Entsorgung Friesland using the contact form at the bottom of the page.
The city of Wilhelmshaven and the Dual System Reclay jointly decided to introduce the Yellow Bin. These parties determined that there would be two sizes of Yellow Bins: either a 120-liter bin or a 240-liter bin. Households with an 80-liter residual waste bin will receive a 120-liter Yellow Bin. Households with a 120- or 240-liter residual waste bin will receive a 240-liter Yellow Bin.
Large residential complexes will receive 1,100 L containers.
In principle, free choice of container size is not possible, as container sizes are determined by the city of Wilhelmshaven and the Dual System Reclay. A change in bin size can only be decided upon receipt of a written, justified request. Please use the contact form for this purpose.
Starting in early 2025, Yellow Bins will be emptied every 4 weeks.
By a label on the side of the bin. This sticker shows the address of the corresponding property, a barcode, and a container number.
The volume of the Yellow Bins is based on household size. If you would still like a smaller bin, please contact Augustin Entsorgung Friesland via the contact form or the service number 0800 – 00 60073. We will then review your request and find a solution together.
Yes, at the request of the property owner, shared use of containers between neighboring properties is permitted. Several properties can also share containers as needed.
No, your own bin cannot be used due to contractual requirements. Every single bin in the city of Wilhelmshaven is fitted with a chip, which makes the disposal process easier.
You can dispose of your own bin free of charge at Augustin Entsorgung Friesland, Jadeweserpark 12, 26419 Schortens. The plastic is 100 percent recycled.
Augustin Entsorgung does not provide bin cleaning services.
We recommend placing emptied packaging waste loosely into the Yellow Bin. This way, you make the best use of the bin’s available space. You can first collect the waste temporarily in a smaller, sturdy container. It is also permissible to place waste in commercially available transparent garbage bags in the Yellow Bin. However, please keep in mind the additional use of raw materials this involves. The use of opaque garbage bags is not permitted – if you use them, you risk your bin not being emptied, as the contents cannot be identified.
You can also dispose of your recyclables and packaging at the Wilhelmshaven Disposal Center, Zum Entsorgungszentrum 1, 26386 Wilhelmshaven.
Packaging should only be placed in the collection once emptied out. Rinsing is not necessary. If products have expired, please dispose of the contents in residual or organic waste and place the empty packaging in the appropriate collection systems (Yellow Bin, paper collection, glass collection). Packaging is too valuable for the recycling cycle to be thrown into residual waste. Heavily soiled or improperly emptied packaging seriously disrupts sorting and can make recycling impossible.
Yellow Bags will continue to be collected until collection switches over to the Yellow Bin. Once the switch to the Yellow Bin has taken place, Yellow Bags should no longer be used. We allow a transition period of three months – after this period, Yellow Bags will no longer be collected.
