EN 16194:2012 – The standard for mobile non-flushable toilet cabins

The portable toilet, which can be flexibly set up, has been used in Germany since the 1970s. To ensure consistent quality in terms of environmental protection, hygiene, and odor neutrality, DIN 30750:2007-01 was introduced. This regulation, valid throughout Germany, was in turn replaced by the EU-wide EN 16194:2012 and is now valid for the entire EU. The standard is aimed at manufacturers, renters, and users of sanitary cabins. Primarily, it establishes a standard for the use of sanitary cabins at large and small events, on construction sites, in agriculture, and in other areas of application.

This EU standard prescribes the following number of sanitary cabins per user for use on construction sites, in agriculture, and in industry:

1-10 users: 1 cabin
11-20 users: 2 cabins
over 20 users: one additional cabin for every 10 additional users

• It should be noted that personnel from subcontractors are also included in the calculation when classifying the user group.
• Furthermore, it must be ensured that on ground-level construction sites, the maximum distance from the workplace to the cabin does not exceed 100m. On multi-story construction sites, a cabin must be deployed on every second floor.
• Additionally, a cabin must always be emptied and cleaned at least every 5 working days. Different regulations apply for use at events.
